The program provides an opportunity for teachers to globalize teaching and learning in their own classrooms through participation in an 8-week online course, two Global Symposia in Washington, D.C. and a two or three week international travel fellowship. Current program travel countries include Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Morocco and Ukraine.
In 2011-2012, I was fortunate to participate in the Teachers For Global Classrooms Program. I travelled to Washington, D.C. February 16-18, to the West African country of Ghana March 3-18 and returned again to D.C. October 4-6.
The TGC Capstone Project involves the creation of a Global Education Resource Guide specific to my local school community. Started during the online course, updated, and added to during the duration of the program, the Capstone Project is a portfolio capturing the intensive and active learning during the program, as well as providing necessary tools for transforming a school community into a center of global engagement.
